MARQUETRY PORTRAIT FOR BNL-BNP PARIBAS NEW CAMPAIGN
The campaign launched by the London-based Machas consultancy was focused on the people behind the so-called “What you are is what makes you unique” and the new service of the BNL-BNP Paribas Bank, with a special regard to the uniqueness of the individual. To promote this message, Machas Advertising chose graphic designer and marquetry artist László Sándor for Ferdinando Rebecchi, the Life Banker project manager.
“The campaign is aimed at focusing on the striking difference of mass society and homologue of the individual” declared Fabio Teodori CD. “And the using of wood cut manually is a good example of this.” Laszló’s work is contrary to the mass production art regarding both the production process and the result: each element of the portrait is a carefully selected piece of wood. After the completion of the portrait, the materials “mature”. It’s an aging process that actually adds art to it.
The co-production is a joint endeavor of three nations. First, Mr. Rebecchi’s photo in his Rome office was made: making a contact between the photographer and the artist, to achieve an adequate photo for the marquetry portrait. Subsequent to this, the selection of basic material and artistic work was launched in Hungary. When the marquetry photo was completed, a Hungarian photographer a digital reproduction of the portrait that became the visual key element of the advertisement campaign.
